Swansons Lane Wind Farm

About the Wind Farm

The Swansons Lane Wind Farm will consist of five wind turbine generators with a combined capacity of approximately 35 megawatts (MW), and will generate enough power for approximately 29,000 homes.

The location of the proposed Swansons Lane Wind Farm is shown on the map below. This site was chosen for the following reasons:

  • It receives undisturbed wind flow with strong, consistent wind speeds.
  • It is in close proximity to the electricity grid;
  • There are large setbacks to houses;
  • There will be minimal effects on flora and fauna; and
  • It offers easy access for construction.

Wind Farm Layout

The wind farm layout will consist of five wind turbine generators and is shown in the map below.

Connection to the Electricity Grid

The proposed location of connection to the electricity grid remains unchanged, being an existing powerline that passes directly adjacent to the site. There will be no new overhead powerlines on the wind farm site as all electrical cables internal to the wind farm site will be located underground. There will also be no new powerlines required off the site.

Environmental Benefits

The wind farm will have significant environmental benefits as it will replace energy that would otherwise be generated by burning fossil fuels.
